
Panchkarma Treatment
Panchakarma is known for the cleansing and rejuvenating of your body, mind and spirit. Panchakarma is a treatment program for the body, mind, and consciousness that cleanses and rejuvenates.
“Panchakarma” actually means “five actions or five treatments.” There are five primary treatments included in Panchakarma which we elaborate on below.
- Vamana
- Virechan
- Basti
- Nasyam
- Raktamoksha

Vaman (Therapeutic Vomiting)
Vaman treatment is targeted to remove Kapha Dosha out of the body.
This treatment involves therapeutic vomiting in order to eliminate excess of mucus from the respiratory and gastro-intestinal tract that causes excess of the kapha. The Vamana treatment helps to dislodge the toxins mainly from the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract.

Virechan (Purgation)
Virechan therapy can be defined as the medicated purgation therapy. The treatment is very useful for patients having High Pitta conditions such as skin disorders, blisters, abscess, liver disorders etc. The Virechana treatment is also very effective if Pitta associated with Kapha, where Pitta is the dominant Dosha such as certain types of vomiting, hyper-acidity, acid peptic disorders, etc. and Pitta associated with Vata, such as gout, a complex form of arthritis.

Akshi Tarpan [Netra (Eye) Basti]
Netra Basti / Akshitarpan (Ayurvedic Eyes Rejuvenation):- Askhi means eyes and tarpan means nourishment, giving strength to the eyes.
Benefits:
- It is said to be an excellent treatment to improve blurred vision.
- Removes dark circles beneath the eyes.
- Revitalises and rejuvenates tired, dry, rough and injured eyes.
- Reduces burning sensation.

Greeva Basti (Neck Basti)
Greeva refers to the neck and Basti means to hold something inside. Due to present era lifestyle which involves continued and glued sitting position and lack of body movements the diseases of the spine, muscles and skeletal tissues of neck and shoulder arise. Greeva Basti treats these issues effectively. The therapeutic healing properties of medicated oil improves circulation, helps strengthen the musculature and lubricate the joint.

Janu Basti treatment involves herbal medicated oilsthat are poured for a certain duration of time in a particular part of the knee joint. This also helps to soften the stiff ligaments, muscles, and tendons to accelerate the repair of damaged tissue and eases the movement of the knee joint.

Kati Basti is an intensely soothing and effective treatment in which lukewarm, herbal medicated oil is applied on the lower back with the help of black gram flour dough.

A special oil is used for this therapy, along with steam to remove toxins through the nostrils, so that you experience relief from symptoms resulting from these issues.Nasya is the cleansing of channels of the head and neck. It can also help balance the doshas, enhance the sense of smell, and promote relaxation.

Raktamokha
It is one of the five toxin-eliminating treatments that collectively are called panchakarma.
Rakta moksha can be administered by various means, depending on the ailment. It is used to treat skin disease, herpes, jaundice, abscesses, ulcers and gout, among other ailments.
There are two categories of rakta moksha therapy: shastra visravana(with the help of metal) and anushastra visravana(without metal)
There are four types of anushastra visravana:
- Jalouka vacharana – application of leeches to extract blood
- Alabu – a calabash gourd with a candle to create a vacuum over an area of pricked skin, thereby extracting blood
- Shrunga vacharana – use of a cow’s horn to suck the blood from the scratched skin
- Ghati yantra – similar to alabu, but a pot is used instead of a gourd.

There are two types of shastra visravana:
- Pracchana – scraping the skin to create several incisions
- Sira vedhana – removal of blood by puncturing the skin, also called venepuncture
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is a well-known ayurvedic treatment. The name of the treatment is derived from the sanskrit word – shiro (head) and dhara (flow) which is effective in improving neurological function, while helping you relax and sleep peacefully.
